Meet the Maker - Sarah

Meet the Maker - Sarah - Lulu + Belle Jewellery

We have heard so many stories from our amazing customers over the last few months and have been blown away by the support we have received. We wanted to show our customers just how much it means to us by introducing the amazing team behind Lulu + Belle. Second on our 'Meet the Maker' series is our incredible team member, Sarah. Sarah joined the team 1 year ago after graduating from DCCOI's prestigious Goldsmithing and Design course. She has an amazing range of skills and a very impressive portfolio. We are so glad she is part of the Lulu + Belle team!

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself

My name is Sarah, I grew up in Dublin and I'm a practicing Goldsmith. I love designing and creating. I also teach classes in jewellery making on the side. I love the idea of passing my skills on to other people.

2. How did you get into jewellery making?

I've always been interested in art in general since the time I could pick up a pencil. I was a very destructive child; always pulling things apart to see how they work. So I knew straight away that I would follow an art career. I completed a BA Hons in Fine Art in IADT where I specialised in Sculpture. After college, I took a part time course in jewellery making in the School of Jewellery and instantly fell in love. Jewellery itself is like small scale sculpture so I guess it merges my love for sculpture and fashion. I then went on to study a Higher Diploma in Jewellery & Goldsmithing Skills and Design with the DCCOI in Kilkenny, which I graduated from 2 years ago.

3. What do you do in Lulu + Belle?

I am a Jewellery Maker. My role at Lulu + Belle involves fabrication and processing of orders. So jobs like polishing, soldering, clean up with emery and hand stamping the scripts as well as wire wrapping.

4. What's your favourite piece of Lulu + Belle jewellery to make + why?

My favourite piece is probably the interlocking circles. I feel the making is very involved; it is one of the pieces in the collection that requires soldering which is a process I love doing. Then the clean up process is very methodical which I find quite relaxing.

5. Do you have a piece of Lulu + Belle jewellery that you love to wear?

My favourite piece to wear, again, is the interlocking circles 'Three of Us' necklace pendant. I like quite minimal pieces. I also like the idea of layering my jewellery and this piece works beautifully with so many pieces.

6. What's your favourite part of working at Lulu + Belle studio?

Definitely the team of people I work with. There is such a nice, relaxed environment in the studio. We all get on really well and have a good laugh which you need alongside work. It's also great to be around a group of like minded, creative people as you can bounce ideas around, grow and learn from each other.

7. How do you spend your time off?

I love the outdoors and being in nature. So when I'm not in work, I'm out adventuring and finding new inspiration for my own work. I love patterns and forms in nature so I'm always out sketching.
